~Provide a safe haven for over 370 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians
~Protect the last remaining unchannelized Bayou in Houston, which is critical for flood mitigation & water quality
~Continue education & visitor programs that provide access to one of the largest urban wilderness preserves in the United States
~Preserve & restore 2,500 acres of rapidly vanishing Gulf Coast habitats; forest, prairie & wetlands once abundant in the Houston Galveston area
