Matching Farm Fund Established in Honor of Lew Hornung

A generous contribution has enabled ABNC to create the Martyn Farm Legacy Fund honoring Lew Hornung, along with a pledge that to match additional contributions dollar for dollar. The fund will be used to preserve the structures and stories of the Martyn Family farm exhibit at ABNC, providing resources for maintenance of the farm house and associated structures, the furnishings and household goods exhibited in the farm house, and the grounds and gardens that comprise the Martyn Farm exhibit.

After managing the farm operations for many years, Lew devoted the latter part of his life as a volunteer maintaining the Martyn family farm exhibit. Thousands of people enjoy this exhibit every year, especially during the Martyn Farm Harvest Festival. Hundreds of school children experience “hands on history” during field trips to the farm. ABNC volunteers and outside volunteer groups do their best with the resources they have to maintain the historic farm house and other preserved buildings, windmill, and gardens. However, sometimes serious repairs require more materials or outside expertise than budgeted funds allow.

Stan and Jane Krauhs have established the Martyn Farm Legacy Fund with a generous donation of $10,000 in honor of Lew Hornung. In addition, they have pledged to donate as much as $10,000 more in 1:1 matching funds through November 30, 2017, giving the fund the potential to grow to $30,000 or more just this year. They want everyone who knew and loved Lew and the farm to be able to participate in honoring him by helping to ensure that the appearance and condition of the Martyn Family farm exhibit improve with time.

To honor Lew and secure the legacy of the Martin Farm you can make any amount of donation and have it doubled, just by adding “Lew Hornung memorial” or “Martyn Farm Legacy Fund” to memo line on your check.  Credit card and cash donations are also welcome.  Call 281-474-2551 for more details.
