Pond Life Training

For individuals who would like to explore the ponds during the cooler months. Compare macroscopic and microscopic specimens, basic identification, collection and recording techniques and classroom activities.

Hands on History Overview

This class will take you through life in the 1895 era at the Martyn Farm and Hanson House. By comparing and contrasting a day in the life of a family in the 1890's and a family in the 2000's we can ask important questions about the direction of our current society and stewardship of the environment. Some topic areas discussed are: organizing tasks and chores, education, communication among others, entertainment, recreation and holidays, healthcare, religion, justice and legislation. Hazardous Beasties & Plants of the Northeast Texas Coast

Everyone is concerned about what they will find in the wild and this helps you to identify some of the most common animals and plants in our area that might be hazardous. Beginning Insect Investigations

Learn the basics of what makes an insect an insect and take a peek into the largest group of animals on earth. Play games, construct your own insects, do field collection and identification and view specimens. Heather for reservations 281-474-2551x14

CP Chem "Connections" Training

Receive interpretation training for elementary students while "getting into nature" with hands on lessons in the three ecosystems, (prairie, forest, and wetlands), here at ABNC. Curriculum guide and 3 SBEC hours daily. Volunteer docent commitment is requested following training. Those who have taken previous training, call 281-474-2551 x14 for “buddy” opportunities.

WET in the City

Water Educator Training (WET) in the City is an urban environmental education program of the Council for Environmental Education that focuses on water resources.

A $35.00 fee is required to register. (If you are a teacher in the Pasadena ISD, your fee will be underwritten by the district via reimbursement). No refunds will be made for no shows or cancellations after the registration deadline of September 25, 2009. Workshop registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until workshops are full. Complete the registration form and send to Kathy at ABNC. Checks should be made to ABNC and "workshop" in memo. 6 SBEC hours

Owl Pellet Dissection Lab

For educators or those of you whooo have never dissected an owl pellet or would like a refresher. Demonstration of raptor species, adaptations, general information, actual dissection. This class will provide you with materials to support your lab. 3 hours of SBEC credit in environmental science/birds upon completion. Call Heather 281-474-2551x14 for reservations.
