Armand Bayou Nature Center received a generous grant from the John P. McGovern Foundation, to create a special garden accommodating children, strollers, and rollers who choose to view the Prairie, Forest, and Wetlands in a more condensed manner. This garden is open daily during the regularly scheduled center hours 9-5 Tuesday-Saturday and 12-5 Sunday.
Reservations are required two week in advance. The Nature Center must receive notification of cancellation one week prior to the class to give a refund. $15.00/class or $5.00/class for ABNC members. Call 281-474-2551 x 13 for class dates and to enroll.
Armand Bayou Nature Center received generous grants from the John P. McGovern Foundation to create the Children's Discovery Area, an interactive outdoor environmental education area especially for children and accompanying adults. These grants also provide support the Creature Corner classes. The Children's Discovery Area allows visitors to learn about the three ABNC ecosystems without physically visiting each ecosystem at the Nature Center. This area is landscaped with plants characteristic of ABNC's forest, prairie and marsh ecosystems. The Children's Discovery Area is a great place for children to play and learn and accompanying adults take a sit-down break and watch their children have fun with nature. The area was designed to accommodate children and strollers and is open to the public during the Center's regular hours.
In addition to the John P. McGovern Foundation, the following individuals or organizations participated in the creation of the John P. McGovern's Children's Discovery Area: Dow Chemical Company, United Space Alliance and Lyondell Chemical Company volunteers; the ABNC "Gem" Crew (carpentry volunteers), Mark Fox Landscaping, Peter's (Guglielmo) Home Improvement and the ABNC John P. McGovern Grant Team.
