Welcome to the
Armand Bayou Nature Center
Experience first hand how Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC) is working to preserve the wetlands prairie, forest and marsh habitats surrounding Armand Bayou. Visit this astonishingly beautiful part of the Texas Gulf Coast and "reconnect with nature". Visitors can learn about our plant and animal inhabitants, bird-watch, hike on the Nature Center's trails or view our live animal displays of snakes, spiders, hawks and bison. A visit to the Center's Martyn Farm will take you back in time to late 1800's farm life in Texas. Before you leave, make reservations to see the beauty of Armand Bayou on the "Bayou Ranger", an electric pontoon boat, or in a guided canoe tour.
HIKING TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Continuing rainfall and a heroic effort by stewardship and facility maintenance volunteers have allowed us to re-open all of our hiking trails. The Martyn, Karankawa and Lady Bird Trails are all open, along with the Prairie Interpretive Loop. Even with the recent rains, drought damage to the trees means falling debris are still a concern, so hikers should stay aware and cautious on the trails. Weather and safety considerations will be monitored regularly by ABNC staff, and trails may open or close without notice. You can call 281-474-2551 x 10 for the latest trail information.
Third Sundays in Nature “Planting Natives”
Our February event is "FREE" and will feature a presentation on “WaterSmart Gardening” by Chris LaChance.
With last summer’s drought and many of our ornamental plants not surviving, it’s time to be Watersmart! Tour our gardens and discover how you can transform your yard. Take a hike and meet our variety of trees. Learn how our prairie is being restored. Make seed balls and plant your own seed to help in the restoration effort.
Start saving your aluminum cans for our Can drive in April!
Pontoon Boat Adventures
Start your weekend by enjoying a leisurely Saturday morning breakfast drifting down the bayou on our pontoon boat, the "Bayou Ranger". Observe wildlife searching for their breakfast on the bayou. This trip through the heart of the Nature Center presents an uncommon opportunity to watch and learn about bayou life. Enjoy pastries, juice and coffee while underway.
