Prairie Platform
If you walking straight out from the rear of the Education/Interpretive Building the path will take you to the Prairie Platform. The platform allows the visitor to view the prairie from above the tall grasses that can reach up to 6 feet tall. Located at the base of the platform (to the right) is the start of the Prairie Trail that takes you through a small portion of the prairie.
Standing on the Prairie Platform you can gaze across a section of ABNC's tall grass prairie. The ABNC Prairie Friday crew and other volunteers have worked hard to remove the invasive species of plants such as the Chinese tallow and replant native grasses.
At the base of the Prairie Platform is a garden with native plants. This garden was planted and is maintained by ABNC volunteers.
The Canopy Walkway is a new addition to the Prairie Platform. This walkway allows you to walk among the tree tops. The Canopy Walkway was funded by Englehard Corporation and SSCI Environmental, Inc. The walkway was built by our hard-working and talented ABNC volunteers.
