- One case of paper (10 reams) uses approximately 60% of a tree.
- Production of 1 ton of copy paper (400 reams) produces 5690 lbs. of green house gases.
- Three quarts of oil are consumed in the production of a single toner cartridge and it will take 1000 years to decompose.
- This year, half of the top 2000 companies will spend more on power than on the devices they power.
For the staff at ABNC, these are truly eye-opening facts. As a nature center, we are not “walking the walk”. Year after year, we have been publishing our quarterly magazine without a full appreciation of it’s impact on the environment. As hard as it is to accept change, we need to abandon our attachment to paper.
We believe the time is at hand to convert our quarterly magazine to an electronic version which would be emailed to our members and also available on our website – where it could be downloaded and printed (if you must have a paper copy).
